More bud vases for the Hilton Garden Inn

A few years ago, I made a series of bud vases to go on the tables in the lobby breakfast area of the new Hilton Garden Inn.  Donna Benson really did a great job decorating the lobby with locally made pottery, much of it from Good Dirt's gallery.  I was really grateful that she commissioned me to make the vases.  As I recall, she had purchased several vases from another potter, and they were all falling over and breaking.  My task was to replicate the look of the less practical hand-built vases.  I had no desire to hand-build, so i decided to throw the vases as hollow closed forms and paddle them with a carved wooden paddle to give them a textured surface.  I ended up using an ash glaze on the exterior and an oribe glaze on the interior.  They came out well, and that initial order has lasted them a good long while.

As can be expected, accidents have happened, and they now have need of a few replacements.  I plan to work on them tomorrow, and I will make a video of the process to share on this blog.  Now you can follow along and make a nice little vase to hold a few daffodils (they're up early this year, so you better get on it).  Until then....
